I’ve watched all manner of heist movies, cash, diamonds, paintings, government secrets… but Viagra? Oh I had to watch this.
Hard Times is about the small town of Kilcoulins Leap, a one time popular spa town known for it’s Holy Well. However, the tourist dollars have mostly dried up and money is sparse for everyone. One day mail carrier Podger Byrnes (Cornelius Clarke) comes up with a plan to make a lot of money fast; hijacking a Pfizer truck, stealing it’s shipment of Viagra, and then selling the ill gotten loot in Amsterdam where drug dealing is legal. Of course he can’t do this all by himself so he enlists his friends to help. Crazy though it seems, his desperate friends go along with the heist.
The heist succeeds, but not without several hitches. The biggest of which is that Pfizer is not content to write off the loss to insurance but instead sends a tactical investigation team including Linda Hamilton and Tommy “Tiny” Lister to Kilcoulins Leap to investigate. Reasonable scared of not only the tactical team but also the $2-million reward offered for information, Podger and his crew hide the shipment in the Holy Well. Unfortunately the containers leak, tainting the local waters with the prescription male impotence medication.
Let’s just say everyone drinks the local water.
This movie is so funny. Not just the obvious sexual humor, but the physical comedy and dialogue as well. It also has it touching moments and overall is just a nice feel good kind of movie. Just suspend disbelief about how Viagra affects the townsfolk, it’s not that important to worry about.
Oh yeah, watch the credits, there is some interesting information there.
