Zombie Diaries is according to the DVD cover, “Better than Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later“. Nope, sorry, not even close. Not saying that 28 Days Later was the perfect film but it had better story, dialogue, and action than this one. Zombie Diaries follows several small groups of people, coincidently armed with video cameras after the zombie outbreak hits England. It’s shot documentary style and thankfully does not have as much shaky cam as The Blair Witch Project. Actually if it had than I would’ve had a good excuse to turn it off and saved myself the time of watching this slow, boring movie.
“The Best Zombie Film Ever.” Nope sorry. George Romero, ‘nuf said.
“The most realistic zombie film ever made.” Okay I have to say something nice about this movie don’t I? I did like how they built up the outbreak. It grew realistically, think bird flu but zombies. You hear about a case of something usual, then another. And hey there is a story about quarantining a hospital, and let’s interview the head of health to get their opinion. Then let’s send notices out about how to stop spread of the unknown disease, if it gets to us. Okay I liked that and it was pretty realistic. It’s also the first quarter of the film. I guess maybe I can let them slide on the realistic comment.
But seriously I can’t find any good reason to recommend watching this film. Apparently there is a sequel out, maybe it got better. I have no intention to find out. If someone does and it turns out to be the best zombie movie ever made, let me know.
