Object of my obsession: Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt – February 17, 1981
My favorite appearances: Premium Rush – Wilee, Inception – Arthur, Brick – Brendan
If you were like me when I would hear Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s name, your mind would immediately go to the image of Tommy Solomon on the television show 3rd Rock from the Sun. That was until I saw the movie Inception. That’s the same kid, I thought? Yes, kid, he’s 10 years younger than me and even at the ripe old age of 32, I’m sure he’s still getting carded.
Youthful good looks aside, what I like about Gordon-Levitt is the ease with which he brings to every role I’ve seen him in. To me a sign of a good actor is when I don’t feel like he’s acting. And I’ve never felt he was trying too hard. My favorite roles of his, Wilee, Arthur, and Brendan are all very different characters and you can see that he brings something different to each of these roles. But he doesn’t completely lose himself. There is still a bit that you can definitely say is JGL, be it a smirk, a wink, or a gesture. I also like that he doesn’t fall into the same roles. If you have ever seen Women in Trouble or Elektra Luxx (movies 125/126 to be review later) you know he can be pretty funny as well.
Now all my admiration isn’t just limited to his screen performances, I am a fangirl after all. And one thing that Mr. Gordon-Levitt excels at is being an extremely well dressed man. In a time of casual attire and gratius displays of skin and “guns” (not saying that I don’t admire a nice display of biceps), a man who can pull off a suit well is just a veritable feast for the eyes. The other thing that makes me like JGL so much is his enterprise hitRECord, an open collaborative production company. I’ve liked more than a few things that have come out of this. I’m signed up with it but haven’t contributed yet, I have enough on my plate bring content to you. But still I think this is such a great concept and I like that he champions collaboration and creativity that might not sell on the big screen but still delights and inspires us all the same.
