I’m still brain dead today so I decided I just needed a no plot wonder that I could just try to not fall asleep during, which is extra hard to do when you have a cat snoring next to you. I went in fully expecting Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies to be just as bad as FDR: American Badass, to my surprise there was no real comparison. This movie was actually good. I have not seen Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter yet, but I suspect that is probably why this movie exists.
We start out with young Abraham on his family farm. The zombie virus (unknown in origin) has hit close to home, requiring him to perform the difficult task of eradicating the problem. Fast forward many years later, he’s president of the United States and a soldier sent on a secret mission comes back with a fantastic tale of cannibalism and the undead. No one but Lincoln knows what is truly going on so he leads a mission along with the Secret Service to find and clear out the menace.
Like I said earlier this is not a bad movie. It’s more of the dramatic end of horror than comedy and everything including the zombies help create that atmosphere. The acting and production values are somewhere between made-for-tv movie and low budget independent. No one really over acts so even though they aren’t going to be winning any awards you aren’t rolling your eyes and wanting to turn it off either. There are a few anachronisms and some factual errors for a few characters but really who cares, if you want historical accuracy go see Lincoln.
I did like how they tied the ending into real events in a way that was plausible, well in this movie verse anyway. The story line was interesting but I felt a few times the writer was trying too hard for us to figure out who some of the characters were based on and then the dialogue got real clunky. It may not be the best movie every made but I’ve definitely paid to see worse.
