Mean Guns – 74.2 of 365

Mean Guns 1997Second re-watched movie of the year.  I don’t care how much of a hippie you are sometimes you just like watching gratuitous gun violence. Or maybe that’s just me.  Mean Guns is silly, cheesy, over-the-top entertainment.  The plot, not that it really matters is as follows, Vincent Moon (Ice-T) has gathered a bunch of syndicate employees to a prison that will open the next day.  Everyone there has wronged the syndicate in some way.  Instead of taking the traditional way of dealing with it, just killing them and making their bodies disappear, Moon has decided to make a game out of it.  Kill or be killed free for all.  The last three alive get to leave and split a prize of $10-million.  There is a six-hour time limit if there are more than three alive at that time, everyone is killed.

There is also a subplot involving Lou (Christopher Lambert) and his young  daughter Lucy who he brought to the meeting.  There is also another subplot involving the squealer Cam and Marcus.  But honestly I’ve never really cared about those plots.  My favorite characters are actually the team of Crow and Hoss and the ditzy appearing, yet amazingly hard to kill, Barbie.

Ignore the body and bullet count, neither have any basis in reality.  I remember the first few times we saw this we swear that we see the same black actor die three different times.

You watch this movie for the violence, the great drop lines, and of course great Mambo music.  That last one will make sense once you’ve seen the film.
