Where have all the good zombie movies gone? Not to the cable network Chiller that’s for sure. That should have been my first warning, made-for-tv zombie movie. But it’s set in a casino, that should be interesting right? Maybe if there were more than four survivors; Tom, the slacker casino manager(?) with a checkered past; Cindy the casino waitress with a heart of stone and the attitude a Jerry Springer guest; Jensen, casino worker, quiet, gay, and just around to balance out the other two and Victor, unknown origin, but you definitely don’t want to turn your back on him.
A freak accident, radioactive in nature, brings on the zombie apocalypse. It seems that if you weren’t hit by the initial blast then you are safe from conversion but this is never really proved or disproved. What we are treated to besides some zombie killing is a litany of sniping between Tom and Cindy, Jensen mumbling, and Victor screwing over people whenever things get tough.
There is not one redeeming part of this movie save that the zombie behavior has some interesting qualities; they sleep, there is varying levels of zombie intelligence and they are constantly hungry, not just for human flesh, any other flesh or food will do.
Frankly skip this movie and hunt down the Remains comic books by Steve Niles. I haven’t read them but I’m sure they are much, much, better than this.
