Cute movie that could’ve been so much better. I love the concept of the story, about trying to break out of the preconceived destiny other’s have forced on you. In the town of Malaria, where it is always cloudy and stormy the king has convinced them that being evil is the only way to survive. Where evil inventions and the blackmail of the rest of the world is there economy. And then there is Igor. The name bestowed upon anyone with a hunchback. They are sent off to a special training school to learn how to be the slurrying, dim, servant-assistants to the evil scientist. But one Igor in particular wants to break that cycle, and he actually may have the brains to do it.
Like I said it was a nice concept, and with a pretty well known cast this should’ve been a great movie. The problem was the dialogue. It just wasn’t interesting. Most of the jokes where definitely aimed at keeping the adults awake and even many of them were dated. The antics of Igor’s inventions Scamper and Brain were cute but not really laugh out loud funny. Even Eddie Izzard seemed a bit stilted as the evil Dr. Schadenfreude. I really wanted to like it but in the end I just wanted more.
