When we are watching a movie at the theater we use the previews as a way of deciding where we are going to watch upcoming movies; Opening Weekend first run, first run, second run, dollar theater, rental/Netflix, if it happens to be on TV or not unless forced to as a means of torture. For me, this movie was planned to be somewhere between dollar theater and Netflix. As interesting as it seemed in the previews it was Nicolas Cage and I’ve been burned to many times before.
However, now that I’ve seen this, I could have easily at least seen it second run. For one Nicolas Cage, disappearing and reappearing accent aside, isn’t really playing Nicolas Cage. Secondly Ron Perlman, who just adds to a movie by standing in the frame. Thirdly Stephen Campbell Moore is a pretty decent stand out character as the monk Debelzaq. Extras include that the cinematography is nice, particularly in the battle scenes and the storyline has a bit more to it than I thought it would.
I could’ve paid second run prices and not been disappointed but don’t feel like I missed anything for waiting.
