Movie 6 of 365

Now I’m not generally a big fan of Disney movies. Mainly because they are about as formulaic as a Seth MacFarlane cartoon. So I knew I wasn’t going to love it and at some point near the middle it was going to piss me off. Which it did.

I think Mother Gothel was more evil than necessary. Okay we know she’s keeping Rapunzel in a tower by making her believe she’s her mother but does she need to emotionally abuse her with the snide comments and backhanded compliments? We get it she’s the bad guy. They could’ve substituted her a good portion of onscreen time for more with the horse Maximus which is my favorite character.

From a technical standpoint I really liked how they dealt with the hair, the strand detail and particularly keeping it in motion with her, so it really was a part of her and not just a lump of color attached. The floating lanterns were spectacular really contributed to the awe of those scenes. I didn’t feel I was tortured too much by having to watch this but for the most part, it was just another Cinderella, Snow White, etc.
